Bondage

The incredible success of Teen Challenge is because it is not a drug rehab program, but an intensive discipleship ministry. It involves breaking the physical addiction, social influence, dealing with mental and emotional patterns, and spiritual bondage, so it may require more than this one session of prayer for freedom to be won. In addition to prayer, we fight bondage with:

Knowing the Truth

John 8:31-32 NIV To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Refusing to Conform

Romans 12:2a NIV Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world...

Renewing the Mind

Romans 12:2b NIV ...but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Praying in Power

2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Note: Because bondage to life controlling habits has its hold on a person in several ways (physically, socially, mentally, emotionally and spiritually), it is important to deal with the underlying reasons for the bondage. A friend says of his former alcohol addiction, “I didn’t have a drinking problem, drinking was my ineffective solution to my problems.”
